What a fantastic week it has been on the water across our ClubNest community! Early June always brings a buzz of activity as the weather begins to warm, and anglers can often enjoy longer evenings and lively fish. This week saw a good mix of competitive matches, focused coaching sessions, and engaging club events spotlighting junior anglers — a real heartening trend. Whether you’ve been battling it out at Weston Angling Association or honing your skills on the Bristol Channel, there’s plenty to catch up on from this busy week in angling.
Match Highlights
We had two exciting matches this week bringing anglers together and stirring some friendly competition.
Evening Sweep Match 2 at Weston Angling Association (8 June)
The Weston Angling Association hosted its second Evening Sweep Match, a popular fixture known for its relaxed yet competitive spirit. Late spring conditions provided a perfect backdrop, and many members turned out eager to test their skills in the evening light. These matches are always a great opportunity to try different tactics and enjoy being out by the water, especially as the days lengthen. Kudos to everyone who braved the water and made the event a success.
Silvers Match at Silvers Lake, Walrow with Highbridge Angling Association (7 June)
Meanwhile, over at Silvers Lake near Highbridge, the Highbridge Angling Association held their Silvers Match, a specialist contest focusing on catching silver fish species. With the lake’s abundance of roach and bream, it was a true test of patience and precision. These matches underline how diverse our platform’s offerings are, catering to anglers looking to specialize or simply enjoy a targeted challenge. Well done to all the anglers who took part and made it a lively day on the bank.
Coaching & Development
It’s incredibly encouraging to see coaching and development thriving this week, particularly with a strong focus on junior anglers — the next generation of our sport. There were three key coaching sessions across the week, ensuring helpful support for beginners and improvers alike.
- Junior Fishing Coaching at Summerlane, Weston-super-Mare under Summerhayes Juniors Club on 6 June saw 3 eager bookings. It’s wonderful to see young anglers getting hands-on experience and growing their confidence on the bank.
- Bristol Channel Beginners & Improvers sessions at The Gambling Angler kicked off early on 4 June, with another session mid-day on 11 June. These sessions offer vital tips and local expertise for anglers aiming to broaden their skills on the Bristol Channel’s unique waters.
The blend of junior-focused coaching and sea fishing improvement reflects a healthy and inclusive angling community, ready to share skills and passion across age groups and interests.
Courses Running This Week
Courses are really taking off this season, providing structured learning alongside club camaraderie. We saw two exciting courses already underway with sessions scheduled through the week:
