From competitive matches to inspiring coaching sessions, it’s been a vibrant week full of angling action across the UK. Whether you’re a seasoned match angler or a junior newcomer picking up a pole for the first time, there’s never been a better time to get involved and connect through your local club.
Match Highlights
Evening Sweep Match 6 at Weston Angling Association (6 July)
Weston Angling Association saw another exciting evening sweep match as members gathered for their sixth round of the season. Mid-summer evenings offer perfect conditions for a lively competition, and the anglers were certainly up for the challenge. These matches are fantastic for bringing the club together after a day’s work to share the thrill of the catch in a friendly yet competitive atmosphere. Well done to everyone who took part—your enthusiasm keeps the club’s spirit running strong through the summer weeks!
River Brue Match at Merry Lane, Highbridge Angling Association (5 July)
Over at Highbridge Angling Association, the scenic banks of the River Brue at Merry Lane hosted a fantastic match. Anglers took advantage of the early July conditions in Somerset, bringing their skills and patience to the peaceful stretch of river. Matches like this provide an excellent opportunity to enjoy the outdoors and test tactics on a classic river venue. Kudos to all the competitors for their dedication and tight lines!
Coaching & Development
It’s truly inspiring to see the focus on nurturing the next generation of anglers this week. Summerhayes Juniors Club took to the Tiverton Canal on 4 July for a Junior Canal Fishing Coaching session, which attracted six enthusiastic bookings. The commitment to junior coaching is a highlight of the ClubNest community, with clubs going the extra mile to spark a lifelong passion in young anglers. Hats off to Summerhayes for providing these fantastic learning opportunities in such a picturesque setting!
Courses Running This Week
- Junior Pole Fishing Course at Highbridge Angling Association – Continuing from 2 June, this course featured a session on 30 June. Pole fishing is a foundational skill in coarse fishing, and it's fantastic to see younger members honing their technique in a structured, supportive environment.
- 5-Week Feeder Fishing Course at Summerhayes Juniors Club – Kicking off on 1 July, the first session was held this week on the same day. Feeder fishing is growing in popularity, and such dedicated courses help juniors gain confidence in a method that's as effective as it is enjoyable.
Club Events
Summerhayes Juniors Club hosted a Sasp Booking event on 2 July, helping members access important services and connect through additional club provisions. These sorts of events demonstrate how clubs are about more than just the fishing—they’re real hubs for community support and engagement.

The excitement continues into next week with a full calendar of activities—another great reason to make time for angling and club life as July warms up.
- Matches: Don’t miss the Final Evening Knock Up at Weston Angling Association (13 July), promising a thrilling conclusion to the evening series and a chance to see who will take top honours.
- Coaching Sessions: The Gambling Angler hosts two excellent sessions on 9 July: Bristol Channel Beginners & Improvers in the morning, and Target Smoothhounds on the Bristol Channel in the afternoon. An ideal way for sea anglers to refine skills and target some exciting species.
- Course Sessions: Highbridge Angling Association continues its education with Junior Whip Fishing sessions on 7 July, while Summerhayes Juniors keep their 5-Week Feeder Fishing Course running on 8 July. Perfect chances for juniors to keep learning throughout the summer holidays.
- Club Events: On 11 July, Summerhayes Juniors Club hosts a fun-packed Family Fun Day at Polden Bower School, a brilliant way for families to enjoy fishing and community spirit. Plus, Weston Angling Association will enforce a Keepnet Ban starting 12 July, promoting fish welfare during the busy summer season.
