These evening matches have become a fantastic way for club members to wind down after a busy day, blending friendly competition with relaxed social vibes. It’s great to see such commitment from participants eager to test their skills as the daylight stretches longer. The club’s waters were well-fished and atmosphere lively, showcasing the best of community spirit as summer shines on.
Silvers Match – Silvers Lake, Walrow (Highbridge Angling Association), 21 June
At Silvers Lake, the match on 21st June brought together anglers from Highbridge Angling Association focusing on silvers species, a classic challenge that demands tactical prowess and patience. The lakeside buzz and tight competition made for an engaging day on the bank. Matches like these are perfect for honing finesse and improving species-specific techniques, encouraging members to develop diverse fishing skills just as the warmer weather gets prime catches moving.
Junior Match 4 – Summer Lane, Weston-super-Mare (Somerset Youth Angling Club), 20 June
The week really shone with the enthusiasm radiating from the Somerset Youth Angling Club's Junior Match 4 on 20th June. It’s wonderful to witness young anglers out in force, learning the ropes and enjoying every moment on the bank at Summer Lane. These junior matches not only build fishing skills but also friendships and confidence—exactly what we want to see growing in our angling communities. Big cheers to all the kids who took part and to the volunteers making these events possible!
Coaching & Development
Coaching remains a cornerstone of angling success and community growth, and this week saw a key session focused on the Bristol Channel Beginners & Improvers at The Gambling Angler on 18th June. Such sessions are invaluable for anglers new to sea fishing or looking to brush up on their technique. It’s heartening to see continued interest in coaching as anglers of all levels chase new skills this season. Keep those bookings coming—nothing beats learning directly from experienced peers!
Courses
June is well underway with ongoing courses helping juniors sharpen their pole fishing skills. The Junior Pole Fishing Course at Highbridge Angling Association marked another session on 16th June, while the 4-Week Pole Fishing Adventure at Summerhayes Juniors Club held a lesson on 17th June. These structured learning opportunities offer young anglers fantastic guidance and practice in a supportive environment, ensuring the next generation of anglers are well-prepared and excited for many fishing adventures ahead.
Club Events
Community remains at the heart of angling, and this week’s events reflect that beautifully. The SYAC Junior Match at Weston Angling Association on 20th June reinforced the club’s commitment to youth engagement. Meanwhile, Summerhayes Juniors Club hosted another well-attended Sasp booking on 18th June, providing members with valuable time on the water and a social atmosphere to share fishing tales and tips. Events like these nurture camaraderie and help clubs thrive beyond just the fishing itself.
